Neil Armstrong

Neil Armstrong is an American astronaut. He was born in 1930. He was the first human in history to set foot on the moon on July 20, 1969. When he was young, Neil Armstrong loved flying very much. He went on a plane ride at the age of 6. He was always thinking about travelling to the outer space.

It was a very important event at that time and millions of people watched the landing on their TV screens. Neil Armstrong travelled to the moon on a spaceship called Apollo 11. He didn’t travel alone. He went with another American astronaut called Buzz Aldrin.


When Neil Armstrong landed on the moon he said:”This is one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.” When he went to university in 1947, he studied engineering. In 1949, he became a navy pilot and went to Korea in 1950 before the start of the Korean War. After the war ended, he returned to America and went back to university to get a bachelor’s degree. He finished his studies at university in 1955.


When Neil Armstrong returned to earth after landing on the moon, he brought with him nearly 5 kilograms of rocks. He was considered a national hero and became very famous all over the world too. He appeared on many TV shows and gave lectures around the world on his mission to the moon. Later on, he worked as a professor of engineering at a big university in America.
