Giving a Reason

In English your can use different words to give a reason or to explain something.


Because = Since = As
He didn't go to school today because he was sick.
He didn't go to school today as he was sick.
He didn't go to school today since he was sick.


Because of 
He didn't buy a new car because of money problems.
He didn't travel overseas because of work commitments.


because of + ing
The boss sacked the lazy worker because of causing the company to lose a lot of money.
The young boy was not allowed to watch a late movie on TV because of containing bad scenes.


The cause of ........... was
The cause of the fire was a cigarette end.
The cause of the damage to the carpet was the heavy rain that fell on the city last night.




The reason why .............. was 
The reason why they didn't get married was that he was a problem gambler.
