Japan



 Japan is a country off the East coast of Asia. It has a population of 127 million people. The capital city of Japan is Tokyo. The official currency is the Japanese Yen. The major religions in Japan include Shinto, Buddhism and Christianity. Japan is a modern country but you can still see many old building everywhere. Japan consists of thousands of islands but there are four main one - Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu.
In Japan there are frequent earthquakes and a lot of rainfall. The main diet for Japanese people is rice. They also cook noodles, seafood, beef, pork, vegetable and chicken. You can also see American fast-food chain restaurants in all Japanese cities like McDonald's and KFC.
Education in Japan starts in pre school but it is not compulsory. Compulsory education starts when a child goes to a primary school. The school year in Japan is about 220 days a year. The students study very hard especially in year 12 to make sure they can go to university. The school year begins in April and ends in March. There is a summer vacation in August for one month.
