He loved football at an early age and went on to become the greatest Argentinean player of all times. At the age of 16 he played for a football team called Boca Juniors in Argentina. Later on, he played for different football teams in Europe including Barcelona and Napoli. He was the most expensive football player in the world. He was voted the Player of the Century in 2000. The most famous goal he scored was the one against England in 1986 at the World Cup quarter-finals. It was called the goal of the century. Maradona also scored a goal with his hand at the same match. The referee didn't see him and Maradona said later on that it was the hand of God that scored the goal. He admitted scoring the goal with his hand on his TV show 17 years later. He led the Argentine team to win the World Cup in West Germany in 1986.
In 1989 he married his childhood sweetheart and his wedding ceremony cost 3 million dollars. It was attended by 1200 guests.
Maradona failed a doping test in 1991 and was not allowed to play football for 15 months. Later on he failed another blood test for doping in 1994 while playing in the World Cup in America. He retired playing at the age of 37. He gained weight and newspapers around the world were filled with stories about his cocaine abuse. He received medical treatment to overcome his cocaine addiction. He had a heart attack in 2004. In 2005 he stopped taking cocaine and started a career as a TV host in Argentina. Now he works as coach of the Argentinean national team.
